Ebay sells ceramic noodles ... i got a 2litre bag for 15$. They dont have to be biomax just make sure they are rigid noodles and not smooth. And Bio balls really dont work that well when in a canister. There design is made for wet/dry , because the bacteria requires oxygen and water. So noodles would be your best bet.

As far as filtration , you should be fine, position the out tube to the in so it blows all the poop into the intake. Maybe an extra powerhead would be nice.

No no , lol sorry.

Okay so you know the outflow tube, the tube that blows the water out powerfully right? Aim that downwards at the grown so it blows all the poop and crap to one side of the tank. Then stick the sucking tube , the tube that sucks up all the water that goes into the fx5 on the side that all the poop is getting blown to. It will keep you tank substrate very clean. If it doesnt blow all the poop into the inlet ( sucking part) then you might want to add an addition powerhead.

By the same logic all biomedia works better in a wet dry filter. Why are bio balls different?

read this thread , its a good sticky. It states exactly what i said , and google supports it as well. A ceramic noodle has more surface area than a bio ball , so why wouldnt you use it? Also you can put more noodles than bio balls. Why dont you put noodles in a wet/dry? They dont work , dont ask me thats just how it goes :nilly:
