My new fx5 seems to shut off after running fine and not just the two minute shut off, and when running water pressure seems really low the bottom layer has the foam filters by fluval they seemed pretty nasty when i opened it up is this most likely the issue?

would that shut it down though?? thinking of trying to find an alternative any ideas?

will clean them and see if it helps just a pain lugging the damn thing out from under the stand

Never use the polishing pads that are sold for the FX5. The volume of water they move is too great and this will lead to clogging and as you've expieranced, shut downs. Fill the center baskets with bio-media of your choice and nothing else. The outer foam ring is plenty of mechanical filtration. A properly set up FX5 should be able to go a minimum of 6 weeks between cleanings...even longer with a monthly backflush.

small room big tank and big bed means no room for dresser cept next to tank

thinking about it i am in arizona every couple weeks usually in Ca so need to get this sorted out before sunday

take all the pads ( white, blue) out of the FX5, they plug and condense too easily cutting your flow down to zero. fill the three chambers with ceramic or glass noodles almost everyfilter manufactuere makes them ..keep the foam pads in the outer ring of each container for mech filtration....you and your fish will be a lot happer:popcorn:
