fx5?'s

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The flow path of the FX5 in the center baskets is from bottom to top so your pre-filter media needs to be in the bottom and the bio-media in the top...not the other way around.

The pre-filter media is designed to keep fine particles out of the bio-media to make it more efficiant however in the FX5 ...the outer foam rings do a great job of this on thier own and the additional pre-filter media becomes nothing more than additional, less efficiant bio-media.

This is why most long time users of FX5's do away with anything in the center baskets other than dedicated Bio-media.

 What Wolf3101 states is correct. I have my fx5 setup like above and is working great for me. Adding more foam filters will just make it clog up more.

Good luck on getting your fx5 to work.

;)

its running great and everyone seems happier the eels breathing better too!

Hi all I am new here and I just wanted to say that this thread has helped me immensely. I have a 125g that I use a FX5 on and just realized that I have been doing it all wrong! :screwy: But it is fixed now. Thank goodness I didn't lose any fish. Thanks to this thread I will be saving $$$, which will make my husband (not a fish person) a very happy man.

125g- 1 Tiger Oscar
2 Red Bay Snooks
1 Black Shark

Many ppl on this forum also suggest plastic scouring pads for FX5 filter medium too. Thats what I'm planning to use on my next FX5.

The scrubbies work really well. What we need is for someone to count them as they are filling the baskets and let us know how many it holds.

Scrubbies?

Which basket do you put them in, the bottom one?..... or are you saying to put them in all the baskets?

Thank you Mis....OH and yes I put bio-media in all three baskets....The FX dosn't really need any help for mechanical filtration.
