Fx5 stopped working; how to fix it.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good thread. Moved to setup and filtration and edited the title for clarity.

I had exact same problem media clogging impeller , worked fine once cleaned out

As far as cloudy water, its probably just disturbed sediment in the filter but!! it could also be that damn ridged tubing fluval uses. Detritus does accumulate in the ridges in the tubing. Every time I clean out my 405's I start em back up and all the crap seems to come out of the tubing. II guess I have to add cleaning the tubes to the cleaning routine.

Yep, it happens. It's mostly the air disturbance that will cause it to break up when you're done with cleaning, otherwise it would be coming out 24/7. And you can just deal with it or add cleaning the tubing to your routine. Which if you've done before you realize it's a PITA.

I don't, when I turn my FX/206 on after a cleaning I simply put a net over the return line to catch as much of the crap as it can.

This is great advice, My fx5 works great, but if it doesn't... I know what I'm doing!

Another bit of advice if you have a seal that doesn't leak water but leaks air. Use vaseline, works wonders. Only side effect is a little bit of oil ontop of your water, and I mean a little. Not even close to the entire surface.

Better yet get silicone grease used for electrical connections. It won't damage the oring like petroleum.
