I used to use a pair of stockings. One time i noticed my filter trickling out water. So i cleaned the pads and it still wasnt great. So i replaced the fine filter pad and still not too much better. A few days later i noticed the debris on the stock. Took it off and works much better. Just keep intake away from sand arpox 4 inches

You guys must be sick of me posting filter questions but every time I think I made my mind up ...I change it!
I love the 2262 but it draws allot more power

As for electricity use, get real.

Electricity costs (on my bill)
$0.18 per kWh

2262 per day = 80W x 24h = 1920 Wh = $0.35/day
FX5 per day = 43W x 24h = 1032 Wh = $0.19/day

16 Cents per day difference... I pay much more than that for fish food alone, and about five times as much for lighting just that one tank.

Buy any filter you want, just make an educated decision as to what you're looking for in a filter, and don't look at wattage...

Also was considering the start up costs. But if you wanna pay my electric bill and cover the additional costs of the filter then I will "get real"
Like I said I love the 2262 and if I had the money right now I would definitly purchase it. I have two kids that come first

People spend more money on this hobby than there own children and I have to get real lmaoo

I usually agree with HARLEY K on most posts but here you are right JAWS,No need to spend extra $$$ on electricity these days , the way prices are going on energy the more you are aware of the cost the better off you are...cans for the most part ARE expensive to run,one exception to this is the eheim CLASSIC series ,the 2217 is nice and also inexpensive to run... but sponge filters and aquaclears are my remedy

Yeah on top of the energy, the start up costs are a few hundred more (media and pads)...I have read allot of his posts guy knows his stuff man but no one can tell someone else how to spend there money lol

Im actually looking to add solar panels... every little bit of savings helps

Considering how much $$$ members spend on fish, many skimp on the life-support system. The filter is lungs, heart and liver of the tank and IMO the most important investment in our hobby. It oxygenates, circulates, and detoxifies. Filter failure can be fatal, and I've seen folks lose more $$$ in fish than they originally saved by buying a cheap filter.

My reply focused on electricity, which you singled out amongst others. Not sure why your feathers are ruffled when I single it out as well ?!

I really do not care what filter you buy. I really don't. My simple advice is to not make a decision on your fishes life support based on 16 cents/d... If a sponge filter is best for you, get a sponge filter. I run plenty of these in many of my tanks. Just don't say it's for wattage.

Take it or leave it. But don't ask for advice and laugh it off afterwards. That also applies to the PMs you sent me, asking for help. If the advice is not what you want to hear, then graciously make your own decision-we all do.

I definitly appreciate the advise as well as the pm's but you stated that i get real and commented on making educated decisions based on electricity usage i laughed at the fact that you feel I need to get real because I want to save a couple of bucks...hey good for you that electric in your area is 18 cents my area is higher.

Also I never asked you advice about power usage. So im not sure why you felt the need to even criticize the choice unless you felt slighted that I am not going to follow the advice you gave me which was about the 2262 over the fx6

Order got cancelled?

All I'm saying is don't buy on a whim. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish.
What I am not telling you (but regrettably you understood it as such) is how to spend your money. I get no commission for what you buy. I have no horse in that race. Your call entirely. This is the best forum to get a variety of view points, and this is a free country where you can decide as you wish. Happy 4th of July, and good luck with whatever choice you make. I sincerely wish you all the best, as I have no reason to lie to you. Enjoy the fish with your kids, there is nothing better in the world.

We can catch up at the Konvention and chat more if you can attend. Bring a pic of the little ones, I'll share a pic of mine.

Yeah I cancelled it I had a abnormally high electric bill another few expenses where I cant justify spending 600-700 bucks on the filter. I went nuts on the wife and kids and basically am trying to slash costs all across the board in my home. I couldn't get my son into a good public school so will have to pay for catholic school and part of the deal between my wife and i on getting the6ft tank was letting her pick the cabinet and canopy of course she picked one that was really expensive. I didnt mean to offend you and I am not disagreeing with anything you said regarding the 2262 I love it and who knows down the road or if things change until I get the 150 I would love to own one wish they packaged everything including media. Everything in nyc went up gas electric and water I cant beat my wife and kids over the head about not wasting if I dont make an attempt to cut costs myself. I really do appreciate all the info you provide myself and the other members sometimes not acting on the advice your given doesnt mean I disagree with it just not may be feasible
