I sold ehiem for many years, they are really well built and reliable. I expect parts are more easily obtainable nowadays. I do like the fact that most of their canisters let you put whatever media you want in and you don't have to use proprietary media like special cut sponges, etc. The pump on top design, as has been stated here repeatedly, is less prone to getting impeller damage from sand and grit. I probably would have put one on my tank actually, but I felt I had enough common sense and experience to not have any issues with the fx6
For one the 2262 and 2260 have zero bypass because the water enters at the very bottom of the filter. Durability is unsurpasses. Mine are 10-20 years old and never had a problem. Also I media is the original media I started out with. So though you pay more upfront in does not nickel and dime you. I have replaced the foam blocks in the Fluvals several times. Believe me it adds up. The whole concept was 100% right and Eheim would be a fool if they ever stopped making that unit
I am on Team Eheim. I have 2 FX's and 2 2262. There is a lot less to go wrong with the Eheim and as was stated by others, the pump is on top where it can't easily be damaged. The pump on an FX has a timer chip that can fail. I have read about it failing several times.
Just bought one. was thinkin of using this as my sole filter in a 225, stock 2x stingrays, 3x datnoids, 1x VATF, 1x arowana. Cant I just load this up with ceramic bio rings and be good?
I am a Ehiem fan,.. the reliability can not be beat. I am not a big fan of fluvel canisters but there Hob,s can not be beat IMHO. For your tank i would add at least 1 if not 2 AC 110. HoB filters.
