Gar Advice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think we should stop derailing DrB's post. It's getting a way bit out of control. Also not the way I would like to choose to ID any gar. But I will play along and guess and likely be wrong but I'd say very top is spotted and the rest are floridas.

Let's call Maury Povich for paternity test gar Tuesdays.

yeah, I agree to call it quit as it is a good time to stop. All my gar are spotted gar.

BTW for DR.B, those fake plant can be good to keep the stress down, but not too many of them cuz they might stuck their teeth in those plastic while trying to eat their food. My gars do bite the water lily pad all the time when I feed them but because they are not plastic, the gar just tear them off.

Yeah I only have floating plastic plants in an area at the front for cover. The rest of the the tank has pretty much open space to swim at the top.

I think decor wise. Never mind it's a branch. Right? How big is the gar?

yeah it's an about 4' long piece of driftwood. I was trying to sink it, but ended up letting it float because I liked the look more and because it gives the gar some comfort up at the top.

What are you feeding them doc?

Well she came in on some pond series of reptile pellets. I'm trying to get her back on those in my tank so she is at least eating something. Then I'll train her onto tilapia and other Hikari pellets.
