Gar fishing with bows

I find it kind of funny that MOST of the people that have commented on this as hating it are from other countries. If the truth were known the only fish that are legal to bow fish for are extremly overpopulated and are actually considered trash fish. I think the only freshwater species that are legal to bowhunt for are gar and carp. Now don't get me wrong I have a florida gar in my tank and I think he's the coolest thing but I would take up the chance to sharpen my skills on moving tagets like fish anyday. I personally am not a bow hunter but I am a rifle hunter and its the same thing with prairie dog shooting not only is it a kick in the ass but its some of the best target practice you can do to keep you from wounding a large and majestic animal like an elk or deer. another thing most ethical bow fisherman will take their catch to a local fertalizer company to be converted. Even if they are left on shore they don't go to waist. somthing always eats them.

When hunting animals on land you try to kill them in one shot no? Make it a tad more humane, no suffering. With this they shoot arrow after arrow in the fish, and laugh.

Disturbing IMO.

why not do it with a rod and reel and give the fish a chance tho, dont shoot it with an arrow for god sakes. its a fish...... i personally think this justifys shark attacks and that we had it comming a long time ago! gar rock and so do carp, over populantion my rear end nature will take its course who r we to say how many fish should be in a body of water? to me its murder, not sporting and a waste of a beautiful and majestic beast that could kick ur ass is if could breath air. if u want to catch a fish do it wirth sport tackle and release your game. eat what u kill or otherwise use it for bait later. it takes years and years for a fish get to 200lbs and then u shoot it. people are over populated too, but i dont go around shooting guys with bows and using them to grow tomatoes in my garden!!!!!!!:swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear:

:nilly: *runs franticly searching for a bow and scuba gear to hunt down bow fishermen from under water the water*:nilly:

great answer:cool-1: down here i have personally pulled up two 7-9' alligator gars to take big hooks out and set them free. but people do eat garfish in new orleans decent taste too.

so what is the diference of going hunting whit a gun a deer , rabbit wor anything else in land bowfishing ? i dive and fish whit a a speargun , dont like to see the gar killing but not against if they are a lot like you say. i dont like to fish whit a rod is to bored.the fish i go for are seabass, goldenbream , stonebass, eels, octopuss, soll , all saltwater fish.

eh, its not the same as sturgeon, we have huge gar numbers, and nobody will miss them till theyre gone

i personally think bowfishing for carp is fun, theres way overpopulation problems, and im not even damaging that at all, plus, you dig a nice 3' deep hole in the bank and bury em all when youre done, no cleanup

Killing of overpopulated animals is not as horrible if its done in a HUMANE way.

Bow fishing is a discusting example of the carelessness of man.
They are impaled and left to die of internal injuries or suffocation before they are disposed of.

or do you bury them alive too?

hunting to keep down populations of non native species or like our fox problem over here (we killed their natural predators long ago so now were overrun with the little bastards) is fine. but then again like it was mentioned, we try and kill the thing, not torture it. i could see harpooning the thing and then killing it may be a quick method to get rid of them, maybe even quicker than rod fishing, but why do you shoot it several times when it wont kill it, and its not helping to "reel" it in?
