Its a gator gar.
Gators are more aggressive than spotted gars.
And they grow big !!!
Make a Plan for upgrading your setup or get rid of him.
Such a shame in case of the rtg .
he is at 285 gal tank now.. 8ft L x 2.5ft W x2ft H.. how long he will last there?

I dont know it exactly.
Also depends in food and water quallity.
I think maybe 6-12 month.
I would get rid of him asap and get a nice spotted.
Not worth to risk tank mates and spend hundreds on a big tank.

Dear Friends,

I facing a problem in feeding my new Gar. I tried feeding him with bloodworms, brine shrimps and also small guppies, but it seems like he is not feeding on any of them. He sometimes eat on bloodworms but apart from this he is not interested in any other feeding fish.
Please guys any of you could help me out what should i try feeding him as he is really small and worried about him. Its been three days now.

Regards,

Looks like a Florida gar. Try getting a powerhead and placing some strips of tilapia or fish in it. In meantime would leave some guppies in there and see if they start to go missing. Sometimes the movement with current will get it to feed. Add some floating plants. How's ur water? Temp? Aeration? What was it eating at the lfs? Has it been acting funny? What size tank is it in? There's a slight bend at the mouth...was that always there? Did it bump into glass? Repost in the fish disease section with answers to these questions and you'll get some help.

Probably the Poly section
They have this guy at an LFS not too far from me. about 10" being sold as a spotted gar. poor guy seems super stressed. in a 70 gal corner bowfront that has an insane amount of current and nowhere to hide. ive seen a lot of florida gar for sale around here and one supposed longnose. kind of looks like a washed out florida to me but i dont have any experience with ID'ing them.
