I am pretty sure there are spotted gars wild hear, I don't know what your winters are like there, if they are milder then should be fine

Spotted gars are found in several ranges as far south as Louisiana and at least as far north as Michigan.

The shortnose I got from a former member who used to live in Evansville, IN. The spotted gar I got from E_americanus.

Welcome!

Yep, the shortnose at least are native to this area, and I believe the spotted can tolerate the winters here as well. They could stay out all winter if I wanted to leave them, but I may be moving in a few months, so I'm thinking about bringing them in to make the move easier.

Thanks! Maybe when I pull out all the plants I'll be able to get some nice clear pics of all 4 gar for everyone.
i miss craig :(
i want some more shortys.

Dude, if I'd had the space and known how many people were going to want these after I got them, I would have taken like 50-60 of them. Could you imagine a school of a dozen or so shorties swimming around in my pond :nilly:!

thats pretty sweet, it must be nice to have a pond. gets a little to cold up here in the mountains

The pond will freeze most of the way over in the winter, but goldfish, koi, and the gar can survive it as long as I keep an opening in the ice.

Dude if i had know he was gonna move, I would have pickd up a bunch more. He had them cheap, and after he figured out shipping, he could ship 2 for like 30 bucks, maybe a bit more. No one can compare to that. Esp for shortys.

What are the floating plants on there, look a little like water hyacinths.

They are water hyacinth. They did very well in this pond over the summer. I started with 11 small plants in the bog filter, and probably ended up with over 100 of them at one point. I've been culling out of both the bog filter and the pond. I am also getting ready to remove all the floating plants from the pond as the cold weather is starting to kill them.

Ah must be the weather over here the stems dont get nearly that big, had much success in having them flower?

They flowered constantly all summer long. At first it was just a few here and there, and then suddenly every plant had 2-3 flowers, the whole bog filter was pink. It was really pretty.
