Gar Quiz - the return - ID the fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dead gar looks to be a tropical because of the dark top and light bottom as well as the evidence of the spots along the tail.

ok i have been out of town and all over the place for the past couple weeks, but time to get back on track!

ANSWER:
Tropical Gar, Atractosteus tropicus

Thanks to all who guessed! I'm recording this one as no correct answers given as Madding was lucky enough to wait until there was confirmation that others Atracts could be eliminated :)

This particular specimen photo was taken BEFORE tropicals were brought in for the hobby...I borrowed it from the University museum, which has one of the largest fish collections in the world...so keep in mind all those are fair game :)

Next quiz sometime soon--

Kind of off subject at the moment but what is YOY?

Young of the year. A general term for juvenile fish when exact age is unnecessary or hard to pinpoint (but less than a year).

That's my interpretation, anyways.

^^^ I believe it is in the Atractosteus Genus.

Cuban...
