Hi guys. Does anyone know if Garden Hose is acceptable to suck water from a tank and pump water back in from a faucet? I don't need the suction from the faucet for draining the tank, only gravity. I guess what I'm asking is... Does anyone know if it will break down or release particles that aren't fish safe into the water? I don't want to shell out $100+ for a 75 foot Python when I could get a $20 garden hose. Thanks.

you can buy the same clear tubing they use for pythons at most hardware stores pretty cheap.

Lowes carries the sells the clear tubing by the foot that they use on the pythons, but yes I've used a garden hose to fill my tanks before. I usually just let it run a few minutes to get all the standing water out of the hose before putting it in the tank.

If it's safe to drink from, I would say it's safe for your tank. But the safe for drinking water hoses tend to be kinda pricey so you might not end up saving all that much. I always run mine for a little while to clear out any nasties that have built up in the hose before a water change.

Garden hose FTW. I couldnt believe how much faster I can drain my tank. I modified my python tube to use with my hose and the suction is amazing compared to the old vinyl tubing. I also went to home depot and bought the parts to make it possible to fill from the faucet using the garden hose. It was all around 20-25 bucks

I currently use two 25' RV (drinking water safe) hoses connected together to drain and refill my tanks. If I did it over again, I would have just purchased one standard 50' hose with a 3/4" diameter instead of the 1/2" one these have. I don't think drinking water from the hose as a kid damaged me, and I'm pretty sure a standard hose won't damage fish.
