Tomorrow I going to buy two peacock bass to join my alligator gars in my 125 gallon tank. My gars are 18'' and the bass are 12'' . So I introduce the bass to my tank by using a divider? My gars aren't use to other fish being in the tank with and are kinda territorial. My 125 gallon will be a temporary set up until I purchase my 200+ gallon tank next weekend. Please give me some advice!!

I really wouldn't advise doing this combination. The peacock bass are very aggressive feeders. Something that can spook the gars during feeding time, which can cause them to break their back. Another reason is that if they are truely gator gars they could very likely kill the bass. Alligator gars are the most aggressive gar species. It is advised not to house alligator gars with anything you aren't willing to lose.

I would concentrate on getting a larger tank first.

x2.

Peacock bass and gars do not mix; simple as that.

Actually, 2 of my buddies have then together with no problem. In fact they also have the gars with datnoids and silver aros too. I think its all a matter of.personality as well as what your feeding them if they eat feeders, they're likely to be agressive. My buddies got them full on pellet trained and prepared foods so they're all not that aggressive.

Well, then I guess you have your answer ;]

Are these truly alligator gars or florida gars? my alligator gar that i had out grew a 125 in matter of months.. If it is really an alligator gar i would not risk it personally but ultimately it is your fish to do as you wish. I have had fish torn in half in seconds by mine for no apparent reason.

Sorry! I've read that out of the gar species, florida are the least aggressive. Guess what I said doesn't pertain to this topic :/

So what would you put in the tank with alligator gars?
