Gars and Peacock Bass compatability????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
agree with Richard (Polypterus) on this one and a couple others that have essentially said other gars. this thread is quickly decaying to the path of so many others recently...where the OP is clearly just going on with the one (maybe two) posters that say they can do it...whereas they are essentially ignoring the well-supported info.

gator gars go best on their own...after that, other gator gars and similarly sized gars...and even then you're going to see some aggression from time to time. if you want to keep pbass or other fishes, then get rid of the gator gar--

I had two Florida gars in my 260 with peacock bass for a while. When I first put the gars in, they were around 7 inches or so, and the bass were bigger. The combination worked just fine, and the gars were in there until around 15" without ever a single injury. The biggest couple of bass were 15". I ended up selling them to start anew.

Keep in mind, these were Floridas, not Gators. I'm simply stating my own experience.

So Mike give a list of fish you would put in a 265 with a gar?

Honestly, I wouldn't really put much with it in a tank as small as a 265.. like someone already said any bichir or other gars.. Your options get better when you have a large pond and can give him plenty of space.
