Garter Snake Problem

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What part of Colorado do you live in? I live in Highlands Ranch which is by Littleton, anyways I always have garters in my yard. All I do lift up all large stones/rocks in my yard and catch as many as I can then I let them go in Local park. I dont like garters, I would rather have gopher snakes in my yard instead because I know their large enough to eat most birds/rodents.

I'm in castle pines.

If you do not want to relocate them put mothballs around the area and down under the concrete slab. They do not like the smell from them and will move on, hopefully not to another part of the yard. Sulfur powder works too but if you have a sprinkler system, you will have to reapply. Worked for me earlier this year. Lots of garter snakes this year compared to years past.

Not to alarm you but I saw something similar to this on a show on the either Discovery or Animal Planet call Infested. A couple moved into a rent house that unfortunately was infested with garter snakes. The musk got into their water supply and no matter how many snakes they trapped they just kept coming. A huge breeding colony underneath the house had been established and the house was up on blocks so the snakes had access to get into the walls. Good luck to you and I hope it works out.

And that would be why I don't want hater snakes in my house Nereus7..

I'm sure we all don't want snakes in our house. Self explanatory question.
actually it's not..if you have holes or some type of opening around your house then they will get in but that's a little different from them living underneath a concrete slab.....if you said that you were scared of the snakes then that would have been a better answer to the question that I asked you.
