The FishBase says: Threat to humans: Traumatogenic. It says that for many Ariidae (sea catfish). It says that also for some others, like electric cats. IDK what exactly this means in the case of Ariidae but it makes me me wonder... Do you by any chance know what they imply? Their 3 spines are very, very sharp and contain a pain-inflicting substance (I catch them all the time in the Gulf of Mexico). May be that's all it is...

Very gorgeous!!!!! I'm totally jealous! lol, anyone ever see this on import to the USA? I'll have to add this guy to my list someday!!! If you get a chance post up some good pics of that bad boy.

The literal definition is capable of producing a wound or injury. I would think that you could apply that to nearly all catfish lol.

I'd think so too albeit I found that the spines on my large SA cats, pims for instance, are by far duller than those on Ariidae.

Depends on the species I guess. I was cleaning the skull of my jau, and got jabbed pretty good today!!!!! Ouch!!!! Reaching out from the dead to show just how evil he can be lol. I really want to see some good pics of this salmon tail though. Looks amazing.
