Are gars really friendly? I just got a 20" gar last night & was surprised that it comes to me whenever I go to the edge of my pond... it even enjoys being touched... anyone w/ the same experience?

Simon, thanks for the warning... this morning I just handfed my gar & it was really gentle tho.. somehow, i feel like I've got a dolphin... will try to post video of the handfeeding probably over the weekend...

Beware of Anthropormorphizing a fish with a brain the size of a peanut and dagger like double rowed teeth. Really it does not like you....you just are a trained object it will go to for food. It does not "enjoy" being petted it is tolerating it for a meal.
I think that fish are alot smarter than most people think. Ive seen some fish that seem to be able to figure things out better than some of the people ive met lol
in my pond, i have a partially submerged platform....i use it to feed my rays......very shallow water......yet....my cuban gar will constantly breach onto the platform to get the shrimp and squid.....it will also come to me wen i'm near the pond....tried to bite my toe once...
Like my arowana kept banging his head when he was trying to catch minnows, but now it waits until they are away from any decor before grabbing them, and when it eats crawdads it grabs them from behind so they cant pinch him lol
