I'm starting to lean more towards the geophagus b/c I would really like to do an amazon tank and I don't have to get rid of all the fish in there now. The more I read on the gymnos they say that they require high maintenance. Weekly 50% water changes yada yada. Thinking maybe my steindechneri, megasema, hecklii and a orange head? Plus there are more options for tank mates. Let me hear you opinions guys.

First off for any of these fish you are going to have to do weekly water changes. They all like clean water so I'd do a minimum of 25% water change a week.
Out of the 4 you listed I'd only go with the steinys or OHs, megasema and heckii will get too big for a 90g. Then I'd choose only one species and have 4-5 individual of that species.

uaru, gold spot butterfly pleco and thinking about puttin my green severum in there. The 90 will not be permanent. I would like to build a 4'x3'x2' tank in the future. Are the gymnos harder to keep than the geos? Characteristics that I like about both, I'm just on the fence about what to do. 
Not 100% certain that I will upgrade...it's on the wishlist, haha. What about, 2 OH 2 stein my uaru and green sev? Are the gymnos really that needy and hard to care for? So torn right now b/c I want an amazon tank but I like the gymnos b/c of the scarseness in the hobby. Gaaarrrrr!!!
