With me moving my Rams to the 75, that frees up a tank (30 Gal) for Grow out purposes, I could do one of these species:

Geophagus megasema 1" - 6 for $30

or

Gymnogeophagus balzani 1.5" - 5 for $20

or

Geophagus tapajos II "Peachface" - 1" - 5 for $20

I want all 3, but can only do 1, can't find much on the megasema except for they are rare.....

Thoughts?

Hi there.. I would go with the balzanii also.. but I guess you kinda knew I would say that:ROFL:. Pm Ed about the megasema I think he might have some info.. All I could find was a pic showing a very nice geo:drool: but I think they said it was at least 10 inches.. The only other info was in German and I was lost:ROFL:... The pricing on all three seems really good.. They are babies but even so.. I'm gonna be very jealous whichever you pick.. Sue:D

I found on discovery life, (hey I found something at least..) that they only get to 17.5cm (6.89") for the Megasema, The Yellow Geo they call it...Looks a lot like my albios...

Geophagus megasema are from Bolivia, the Rio San Martin and Rio Joaquin. They are a beautiful species, mostly blues and yellows, when mature they would look much different from your Geophagus abalios.

I'd probably go with the G. balzanii though, they would be able to live in the 30g for the longest before needing an upgrade.

Thanks folks!

One thing tho, I am not worried about long term, as I have plenty of space for both Geo and Gymno in larger tanks, the 30 is for GO purposes only, as I would like to give them the best chance for fast growth rate, and target feeding.

ed or bl00 - any Megasema pictures? What about full adult size? I have been able to get the Balzanii and Peachface before, the megasema, I have not, and have heard they are rare.

More Feedback?

Thank you in advance!

Thank you Ed!

Some quick Thoughts....

Thing is, I am learning that I can get the Balzanii later, and maybe not the megasema, That Pic from ed may have done the deed for me!http://www.elpradopreserve.org/Image...20coll 3.jpg

I will do the Balzanii, but I am leaning towards the GCCA classic for a Balzanii buy, as I can do the cool down, let them grow out, and then do the (soon to be, coming as a kit/gift from my buddy Motag7 in exchange for my 45 breeder) 55 with Balzanii, Valentines, and Paso Pache I, with Large Cory's, Dojo's and Escargot! Cost has become a factor, if I am going to only have the 4-5 tanks, I am going to make the combos be compatable, not forced, like Gen Pop (Aggressive Parachromis & Amphiliphous) had been. Allthough GenPop was successful, traveling makes this easier for my kid to take care of when I have to be on the road, GenPop was not easy, I hated the "I had to pull a dead XXXX out of the tank" call. Have not had that with the Geo/Gym's/Mykros.

Thought about an outside tub like duanes has, but....

The issue with the outside tub for me has been right off the savanna, I have egrets, hawks, I even swear I saw a diving bird looked like a King when I was on a run in the Savanna, Koi in the neighborhood in 6' ponds have become sushi!.....I want a pond, but don't want to feed the locals either!

Then the Megasema can be spread out in the 220/125/75 with the OrangeHeads, Albios, Altifron Greens, & Nieva

Thoughts on that?

DaveB? Pathen? Ed? Suzi? all Geophobes I may have missed?
