Geo ID? And others...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Huh, I had a group of 4 in a 125g for over a year and a half, and they never got bigger than about 5". Although they were breeding like clockwork for about 6 months of that time, so maybe that slowed their growth down a bit?

Funnily enough, so far the two newest (Dicro/abalios) are ruling the tank, even though they aren't the biggest in there.

If these guys end up getting that big, or too aggressive with the other geo's/satanoperca, then I will most likely bump them up to the 125g with a group of severums I'll have in there.

hmmm...could they actually be G. iporangensis? I don't have any experience with them, but they are supposed to look like G.. brasiliensis but smaller (max out at 5-6").

Possibly. I no longer have that previous group, only pictures, so I can't compare side by side.

Actually, if you look at the last 2 pictures I posted, that big male Brasiliensis kind of looks more like the pictures of the iporangensis I'm finding online...

I don't have enough experience with them to ID by pictures :( But you'll be able to tell soon, depending on how big they get to :)

True enough. And if the two groups turn out to be different species, all the better, right? I do know I have one dominant male in each group of 3.

Hopefully I can get their new tank bought and set up over the next couple weeks so that they can get their own dedicated tank to grow up big and beautiful in...

Here are some new pics i just took. They've definitely colored up a lot in the tank since yesterday, but my point and shoot camera flash just washes everything out. They are both showing a dark bronze marking on the pre-opercle, but not a black marking. It doesn't really show in the pics because it gets washed out.

I can already tell, whatever they are, they're going to have some great coloring.

From what I've read iporas have a longer snout while brasis are more rounded. If you go to my profile and look in the fish folder under pictures the first 3 are my iporangensis, tried to upload to this thread but pc wont let me.
