Geophagus altifrons and fry

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have had pretty good luck stripping on day 5. The earlier the better for parents with little experience. Once they get the hang of it the longer you can go 7+ days. Just my experience.

How many fry do ou think you have in total Peter?

I think I'd agree. The fry were fully developed when I stripped them more than a day after I took the video. Earlier would work too.

Not sure how many I have but it's not a big brood. I may have lost some during the process - it was a struggle to catch the male. I'd just probably around or under 100.

Thanks for the advice, guys!

Was your male also holding?

Yep. I think the female was holding initially and the made may have decided to help after the eggs hatched. He was very protective and wanted all of them from the female.

In the spawning video, it looked like the male wanted to pick up too, which is totally weird...

The kids are bigger now! It looks like you managed to raise a good number of them. Keep up the great work. You're really making me anxious to keep Geos for the first time. It appears that you get a lot of color and variety with a lot less of the aggression that I'm used to seeing. MFK is responsible for my continual need to purchase new tanks:).

Thanks for the kind words. I haven't learned how to manage bruisers so I'm settling down on these for now :D
