Geophagus altifrons

I have 3 "surinamensis" that I think are altis but I honestly dont know but I just started a thread about one that has some sort of eye infection so help me if you can

yea, over on orchard lake road and 12 mile, in a stripemall called the Orchard 12, its called choice aquariums...the best place around here IMO. they had atleast 50 of them, and the guy that ownes it is the nicest guy i've met at a lfs. here are some pic's, in the first pic you can see the bars really well, the second is of one of the smaller ones, the second and fourth Alti's are the 2 "females" maplecroft 105.jpg resized.jpg

Those are 'Geophagus' brasiliensis.

i knew they look different, i thought they looked that way because they might have been stressed. i've never seen any geo's around me anyways so wether its brasiliensis or altifrons i'm still happy i got a geo.
 
I agree with straightjacket. Geo Brasiliensis have a short and bulky build. If they are in fact Brasiliensis then be ready for some major aggression when they get bigger! But they are very stunning when they get their colors.

Brasiliensis are not completely accepted as Geophagus, as their behavior is quite different, much more on par with like-sized cichlasomines. They are a nice fish though. I had one once, and though he was aggressive, didn't last long in my tanks. He'd been kept in a 6"x6" display cube for more than a year before I finally bought him and the damage was permanent. He never grew properly and eventually wasted away.
I've seen pics of big brasiliensis. The males are especially stunning. Good luck with your goup. Looks like you might be able to get more than one pair out of it. :)

ive heard alot about this choice aquariums i need to stop by there, do they have some good oddballs?
