no they can have fine gravel too.

Who told you that?

Sand should be small enough grain to be sifted in through the mouth and out through the gills. That hyper blue gravel is nowhere near fine enough.

since you've just come back... dont bother trying. you will only get yourself more worked up

Quickly realising this. I wish it was just Convicts and Jack Dempsey's like another infamous ex-MFK member.

yeah, i have to agree, i dont even have any geos for the very reason that i dont have sand, they NEED sand

It's really not that hard to switch over to sand, it's cheaper than gravel, and depending on what else you have they may well enjoy the sand as much as the geo would. My severums for example really seem to like it, they're always digging and sifting sand (not out the gills like the geos).

huh, interesting, why did you never switch to sand like you said you were going to numerous times in that other thread japes linked, and then you got another geo, seems odd to me

For like $10 and an hour or so's work, you could have this guy on pool filter sand that will be MUCH better for him.

ok well dad won't let me switch. any way i just have this one geo now and i like ID please nothing else.

Aw, head in sand. Worries me what happened to the other Geophagus, as you obviously didn't take it back. I guess you do need the ID for when you either return it, or chalk it up onto your "Fish I didn't properly research before I purchased it" list.

What was it purchased as? Could be brachybranchus/abalios or possibly even an altifrons variant, need better photos.

it was purchased as geophagus s.

This would presumably imply Geophagus surinamensis, but since exports from Suranime are either illegal/non-existent (not sure on the exact details) they're generally mislabelled specimens, usually Geophagus brachybranchus - at least in Australia.
