I thought I would post some info on this speciece because I find it interesting.
Name: Geophagus Jurupari
Also there is the Satanoperca Luecosticta (Red Amazon SP.) but i have no Info on.
Jurupari are also refferd to has earth-eaters.
Geophagus Jurupari can grow to a maximum size of 10". They are one of the more common sp. of Geophagus. I purchased mine for $23.99 USD Wild-Caught from South America.
There growth-rate for me has been aprox. 1/4" per month.
Tank:
They need good water conditions there for I do a 25% Water change once a week.
They are good Tank mates for other large docial South American Cichlids.
Severums, Uaru , Green Terror , Acara , ect..
I keep my tank at 79F with a sand substrate, Lots of driftwood. It you have plants surround them with Rocks or he will uncover the roots.
Food:
I feed Hikari-Gold and Hickari-Staple 3 times daily.
Along with eath worms every other day and blood worms ever so often.
The rare ocasion of Tilapia, Brine Shrimp ect.
Other:
I have found mine to be docile but will hold his ground when confronted by a severum.
He eats only "Blue Neon Tetras" not the Orange or Black.
