They doing great. They’ve settled down a bit but they’re definitely the most aggressive eaters in the tank. Chunky little bastards and their colors continue to improve.
I did lose one who jumped out. Not sure how he managed to do it but found one on the floor so I’m down to four.
They don’t really bother anyone except each other. The Pellegrini stay in the middle and lower portion of the tank and these stay mostly near the top.
They’re doing great. Out of the six, one got some kind of injury and his face turned black on one side so I’m thinking some type of nerve damage possibly from ramming into something. He got bloated and wouldn’t eat after that.
The injured one passed on but the other five have put on at least an inch the last two months. They’re all coloring up differently than the larger ones from Rio Atrato so I’m not sure on sexing them yet. Hopefully I’ll be able to document the color differences between collection points so we can have some sort of reference for the future.
I’m planning on pulling out the juveniles and putting them in a 125 to prevent cross breeding. Hopefully that will be set up by the end of the year. I’m building a fish room out of the garage so resealing and setting up another large tank isn’t on the priority list right now.
Once I do that, I’ll try to source some more from a third collection point so I can have a good variety of Pellegrini and get them out in the ponds come springtime.
Also got some sveni from Rapps in the meantime that I plan on breeding by that time as well.
Looking great. I have 4 of the Upper Río San Juan Pellegrini from Jeff Rapps as well. I got them in January when they were about 1”. Growth rate has been really slow. They now range between 2-2.75”. Not much color besides the reds at the top of the fins
Nice. I've got a couple with some red coloration starting to show on their dorsal fins but not much else. I'm hoping the size differences are also indicative of sex because if not, I have five males and that'd be a bummer.
