He claimed that there were both pellegrini's and steiny's in the tank, and that they were bred from his private collection.

Oh well, i guess only time will shed more light into this matter, as they mature a bit more. But they definatly do not look like the steiny's in the tank. there is no red on theire heads, and no hump compared to the steiny's.

But obviously i am aware that chances are that they are just steiny's, and i have been bull****ted.

Edit: But i can't say that it wasn't worth the shot :)

THe guy just stright up lied to you. I would go back and ask to see his elusive pair of pellegrini. I bet you get nothing but excuses, or they died, or I sold them, etc.

There are a ton of wild caught steiny's on the market right now. I'd say he didn't even raise them. He just picked out the runts for you and charged you more money.

Sorry it did not work out. I learned the same lesson. I ordered pellegrini from a well know seller and he sent me a bag of steiny's. I made him refund a good portion of my money.

Oh well, atleast with some good care and attention i will still be getting some great fish.

A shame that people have to act this way in order to make an extra buck or two. :irked:

And honestly, they shouldn't be selling labled fish, when they have no clue what they actually are.

I'm going to have a chat with him once i go return the boxes i borrowed to transport some of the larger fish i also purchased from him. Not going to be a pleasent convo.

Ps. Thanks all for chiming in with your thoughts, and helping me out! Greatly appreciated as usual!

I know the feeling. As soon as I opened my box I was knew I got screwed. Truthfully I knew better anyway but got a little greedy hoping to get a rare fish that I have always wanted. The seller initially didn't reply to several emails and it wasn't until me and the friend I ordered with threatened to let everyone online know about it that he even replied. He evetually agreed to refund some of the money. I found the lowest priced F0 steiny's online and made him refund the difference between the two.

I was initially pretty ticked. I was going to sell the steiny's but after a week or 2 they kind of grew on me so I kept them. Good luck with them either way:).

Ahh sucks man.
Always blows to get bent over by someone :(

Anyway, thanks alot, and i'm sure i'll still enjoy em loads!

i have pellegrini, i had a breeding group sold them and kept the fry to grow them out, they are between 2 1/2-3 inches........

i did when i had the fry for sale, these are not for sale i bought the adults a few years ago at an inch for $50 each.........just because a wholesaler or pet shop says they have pellegrini, means nothing....

I certainly hope this is true, but to my kowledge there is no one in the US with pellegrini. If you really have these fish please post pictures of them for all of us to enjoy.

Sometimes there are fish that people just don't know about but if you were selling fry there should be several people in the US with pellegrini now. I haven't seen any or heard of any. Doesn't mean that it's not true, and I certainly hope it is.

i will try to take pics, there are a few of us in the usa that do have this fish, a more popular species in europe.........
