Geophagus pellegrini

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
LFS not far from heere recently got in , and quickly sold out of G pellegrini. They looked like pellegrini to me, but pellegrini look like stienies to me LOL
They were extremely similar to stienies except they had more of a blue over ornage/gold color to their bodies ad they're heads and sides of their mouths were a sort of blaze orange color

Tfp they are both steindacheri, I have found pet stores\most hobbyists wrong about 100% of the time, I have a breeding group of pellegrini, currently conkel is the only us distributor of this fish....

Didn't look at the photos, but rest assured you will not see pellegrini just showing up at a retail store. They are not found in the generally commercially collected waters and are not caught unless fisherman specifically go to the rivers for them.

There are still several Colombian shippers, and consequently US importers/transshippers that call steins 'pellegrini'.
It's been going on for more than 25 years.

The shippers are not doing this intentionally. The fish are not priced differently. They simply don't know there is a difference, and neither to most general importers.

Jeff said it best most importers/shops have no idea, as for my fish I got my original breeders from him a few years back....as for pics I don't know how to take good pics

Me too I just bought 2 males to introduce new blood to my group, I'll be picking them up at the aca....
