Geophagus PICTURES ANYBODY & EVERYBODY

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is not like I just go out and buy a fish just because it looks cool and not learn anything about it. I do see a fish, try to learn a bit about it, (e.g. does it work with my tanks and existing fishmates, existing water, feeding requirements, etc.) I find this very interesting and fun. But this fish naming thing with all these differant types kills me. You are told that it is a "snoffelumpigus pig-latinous A" and then someone shows you how it can't be "A" it's "snoffelumpigus pig-latinous B", my heads spins and falls off.:nilly:
I am not making fun of any of you guys that love the name game, there is great pleasure in it for some. I Love MFKs

Yeah, I know the name game gets old, but if we didn't play the name game all the time we would have more hybrids (that we didn't know were hybrids) than we already do have. A lot of fish that end up in LFS are hybrids becuase someone didn't play the name game. It is a very important part of breeding cichlids.

BTW- I like hybrids, but they have to be really far from the natural versions of their parents.

geos are great fish, i got to own one one day. not hijacking but is there a better starter geo to others? which would you recommend. i love the colourful geophagus topajos orange/red head sp. how easy are they to breed, i know joe got fry reasonably often

This is the one you're looking for. Geophagus Surinamensis. Absolute joy, not particularly destructive, hardly digs and lives with almost anything. I love the guy, had him since he was 2" and watched him grow into this 12" majestic beast
