I noticed, as in discus, that mine gave out a lot more brilliant colors when I put them over a white substrate and increased the temps to 84-86 degrees.

i hope someone chimes in cuz they are sure dull looking to me so i do not know if they are orange heads

They're not dull in person. The fins are very colorful, but the flash kinda washed that out. Edburress confirmed in another thread that they are indeed orange heads.

If they're still juvies they're probably orange heads, they won't develope full coloration until they hit around 3.5"-4" in body length. Unfortunately a lot of geo's look the same as juvies.

i just bought 3 from nick at n-e cichlids are they gonna get nice and red and what should i feed them beside flakes?

Does anyone else have any of N-E's red heads? I'm dying to get my hands on one, but it seems a bit pricey.

In addition, are there any sources that I could get some besides N-E?

Now I have to figure out how to sex these guys. There's one that's slightly larger than the others, but nothing major. As far as I can tell, they're pretty much identical. No fin extensions, nothing. However, they are becoming much more territorial and there has been some lip locking lately. I can't tell if it's just territorial, or pairing behavior.

Thanks for the complement, nut not so much. I need to figure out a cave solution / rescape the right side of the tank. That little bit of BBA is killing me!
