Which eartheaters would fare best with an oscar (or two)? 75 gallon initially, but the oscar will move out to a 180 after its outgrown the tank. The eartheaters will remain. "MAYBE" a JD in the tank as well, but not entirely sure yet on that one. I don't anything yet in the 75.

I initially thought S. jurupari would be the better selection. Though, not sure, looking at the other species.

The others I took a look at:
G. brasiliensis
G. iporangensis
G. altifrons
S. daemon

Or... if not these, is there another eartheater that works best for my selection (if any at all)?

I have 2 jurupari with 4 oscars. All grew up together starting at about 2". No geos are about 3" and oscars about 5-6". Also have 2 pbass.
Oscars generally ignore the geos. My experience with JD's is from years past. They can be aggressive. IMO would not place with geos unless very large tank (300 gal+).

I've seen (not done) tanks with geos and (more rarely) jurapari with Oscars. Usually big tanks and big filtration, you'd need great filtration with Oscars in order to keep water quality suitable for geos. Tank height appears to help, so the geos and Oscars aren't in each other's face constantly. In a 75-- maybe for a little while they (or at least the Oscar) are still small.

Personally, I wouldn't attempt it with a sensitive and soft water species like S. daemon. And some geo species that seem feisty enough when comfortable can be pushed around fairly easily by chunky or pushy fish. Ime red head Tapajos are like this. So it probably depends on the individual Oscar's temperament.

JDs and geos-- I've seen that also but I wouldn't advise it, the JDs were pushing the geos around a good bit and the JDs were still small. Didn't look promising. With Brasiliensis maybe, in a big enough tank.

Thank you.
No problem. In addition as response to neutrino neutrino
comment I would advise a tank be over 30" high if mixing geos with other cichlids. Tank I described above is about 33" tall by 20" X 4ft. Will soon move oscars and bass to larger tank.

altifrons are a 10 - 12” fish, brasiliensis at least that size and aggressive. I wouldn’t recommend either of those in a 75 once you see their adult sizes and personalities.

The best geos for a 75 would be the ones that stay on the smaller side, like orange head Tapajos, parnaiba, pindare, etc. The problem there is the oscar might or might not harass them. In a big tank, 6’ 200+ gallons, you could probably keep an oscar with a group of the more boisterous geos like altifrons, winemilleri, etc.

S. daemon are a blackwater fish and get HITH super easy if you don’t keep them in pristine, soft water. Stick with the spangled Satanoperca which are easier.

Thank you. The tank is a 75 gallon for now. I have a 180 that I need to rehome what's in that tank, and then I will be moving whatever's necessary to move into that 180. I would like the mix (or any mix for that matter) to work out. Who doesn't. So I value everyone's opinion, before I put anything together.

Forgot to mention....

I currently have two (2) Eheim Pro 4+ 600 canister filters on this 75. I also have a Tidal 110 HOB on standby, should I need more filtration. So, I'm thinking I'll be fine with the filtration with messy fish. ::fingers crossed::

Have you considered something predatory but mild?
