Geophagus with Tetras

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah Geos are really peaceful....I don't think you'll run into any issue with your stock...

Time will show. I ended up with Geophagus by accident. They were lying stressed in my LFS (camed in really bad shape) so manager asked if I can try to put them in my new tank.
So far they are great.

Good luck with yours ass well.

You're lucky! Geos are really hard to come by here so we've to special order most of the time..

thanks!

Hello ,

I love Geophagus and have few altifrons at the moment...and planning to acquire Red Head Tapajos in the future..
I like Penguin Tetras , Bleeding Hearts , Colombians , Hemiodus gracilis and thought not a Tetra , Redline Torpedo Barbs..

I have seen people keep them with various kinds of Tereas and Dwarf Cichlids...but what I want to know is , which Tetras /Barbs and Dwarf Cichlid Species works best with them in your opinion??

Considering Temperature/water requirements , Providing contrast (to Red Heads) and shoaling???
and of course they shouldn't get eaten when Geos are grown up :D

I find the safer tetras are the deeper bodied large tetras like black skirt tetras, bleeding heart tetras, congos, Brycinus longipinnis these are just a few. As for cichlids acaras both wild type and electric blues, some oscars work ok depending on individual fish. Chocholate cichlids work ok, rams go pretty good. I’m unsure about apistos but should work fine.
