German Blue Ram spawns…

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hello peoples…
Well I come home tonight from school and BAM the eggs are gone. The last spawn went like this, I thought they were gone, but the parents moved them. Now what is happing is the male is keeping the female up at the top of the tank. When she comes down, they scuffle. Should I be worried? They may have moved them and the male is keeping the female away from an area where the last spawn ended up. I cannot make out if they are there. I will be able to see if they are there tomorrow when and if the wigglers come out. I will let you know.

Hello people,
I know some of you have or had GBR's... Could you or anyone ells please tell me why my male ram is keeping my female ram at the top of the tank? Every time she comes down he rushes her and forces her up. When he does that she puts her nose down and vibrates her fins. I am freaking out and don't want to loose my female.

Hello People,
Well they did it again. Last night it looks like they made up long enough to have some fun. This would be number 5 and who knows if they will survive or not… I am working on other ways of keeping the fry alive until I get the other tank for the loaches and other fish in the tank. It was cool thou my son and I sat there and watched them the whole time. Good father and son bonding… the wify could care less, she didn’t watch it. I will let you know in a day or so if there still there.

Later,
Don

Well I got home and checked in on the eggs and… nothing there. I don’t think they are even there at all because there not guarding any other spot in the tank. So I do believe that spawn number 5 is gone. I have a spawning cave on the way in the mail. I am going to use fishing line to rig it up on the side where they spawned the 5 times in a row. If they use the cave I will be able to remove the cave and place them in a separate tank to hatch and raise them. Will see…

i normally remove the male because the male can want to kill the eggs or fry to get the female to mate another time which i aweful but true...and then when they are big enough i remove the fry all together to let the pair spawn again

Hello people…

Well, I ordered the spawning cave for my German Blue Rams to try the experiment out by being able to move the cave after a day or so of a spawn. At home last night I checked the tracking number and it is scheduled to be delivered today some time. That is the good news…

The bad news is that as I shut down the computer last night I walked by the tank and BAM the sixth spawn. I just find that kind of ironic. I mean… they could have waited :irked:…

Oh well I will wait to put the cave in until there either gone or moved. I am still on track for the new tank in September. Maybe if they spawn in the cave they will not feel that they need to move the fry, and then maybe keep them in there. Will see…

Well I finally put the spawning cave in to see the reaction of the GBR’s. The female’s belly is getting bigger and darker. It looks like number 8 is in the near future. I noticed that the GBR’s where cleaning off the spot where the previous 7 spawns took place. I thought it was funny. I looked into the spawning cave thinking why they aren’t using the cave. Well when I looked into the cave I noticed something was in there, I saw two tails. It was my male and female Peppered Cory Cats. Wow… who knows I may need to divide the grow out tank in the future. Any ways here is the pic of the new residence.
