Change it or not? Not sure if I'll get responses as this is definitely not a MONSTER FISH :D But would love to hear your opinions...

I have my 30 set up with plants and neon tetras right now. The plan is to keep 3 German Blue Rams in it in a month or so, with the neons. The tank has been up and running for a year and a half. I moved my cichlids out of it in January 07 when I got my 90 gallon.

SO...
The gravel I have in it is the medium sized gravel substrate. Tough to describe any better than it's small pebbles about 1/8" to 1/4" tops. But, I think the Rams would prefer a finer substrate such as sand. I think that would be more natural for them? If I need to change it I'd like to do it soon.

What are your opinions?

Plants include:
Java Fern (on wood not in substrate)
Peace Lilly (in substrate and doing very well)
Anubias Nana (will be attached to wood soon)
And another small plant I have yet to identify (sorry)

Tank is 30 gallons and will have 12-15 Neons with 2 GBR's

Thanks to all!:headbang2

The Rams would be fine in that substrate, that how I have always kept them. Also I would suggest getting a 4th Ram instead of just the 3.

i would switch it to a sand/gravel mix since rams dig pits when they breed if your gonna breed them also its easier for them to move..and go with 6 rams that way they wont be so aggro to each other and the plant list is good peace lillies are awesome plants

Either substrate would do just fine, as would a combo like dovii suggested. Sand would definitely help the plants root, and look nice as well. Are we going to see pics of this setup?

I think they look great with either black or white sand.

The rams will be fine with the substrate. They are not the type to dig and move around substrate.

Definitely. Gona take pics of it now and you guys/gals tell me if I should go sand or not. Was thinking about using black sand with a small amount of white or other color mixed in. Like a salt n pepper type effect...I hope.

Pics are coming ASAP :D

thanks

here ya go....sorry they look crappy. Blanket's to block all the light. Sun's still beaming out there. C'mon SUMMER!!

Sorry for the 3rd in a row but what's the name of the plant next to the lilly in the middle? Got that in the mail free with some other plants so I just stuck it in there to see what it'd do
