Get rid of snails

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the input
I searched online for good loaches to control the snails and came across
1. Kuhli loach
2. Zebra loach
3. Yo-yo loach
I’ve kept yo-yo and clowns in the past
So I might switch it up this time around and try the kuhlis
Yo-yo would definitely do it. I’ve just never kept them that warm. But honestly, I kept lots of fish of all types, even bluegill in that sauna I called a garage without issue

My garage gets like 90-95 in the summer but tank doesn’t reach that high. I think the clowns will thrive better in the warmer water
It will come down to what I find in stock at the local fish store lol

I think you’re ok, my garage was 110 for 5 months a year. Fans kept all the tanks around 88-89, never got over 90

Eel tailed catfishes would smash through em, but might be hard to find in the states.
Keep in mind kuhli loaches have small mouthes, and the snails may be too bigs

I saw some at a LFS Sunday , but they were around $200
Crikey. did you see what species? Some other fish are called 'eel tailed catfish' or eel catfish, even when they aren't tandanus type species (Tandanus, Neosilurus, Prochilious ect.)

He had two types, both were around $200 but one was a little more than the other. I know one was tandanus, I don’t remember the other

An easy way to get rid of snails is to get an empty jar and a chunk of cucumber, put the cucumber in the jar and the jar on the bottom of the tank. Once you see the snails on the cucumber take it out, throw it away and replace with a nice fresh slice.
It will take a few repeats and you might have to do it again in a month or two when any eggs hatch but it does work eventually. Try it and you will be surprised how many you get rid of so quickly . One thing I would avoid is any of the chemical snail killers.

I will have to try the cucumber trick thanks for mentioning that.
