Hey everyone, I was looking at a craigslist ad: http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/for/1620737176.html

and there is a good chance I will be purchasing this tank. However, I would really like to use it for Piranhas (Yes, I know some species are illegal in my state but not all) and this tank is setup as Salt Water. Now, with the exception of the fish (I will be giving them away most likely here on MFK) can everything here be used as Freshwater? In other words, can I just take out the Salt, rinse everything and throw in Freshwater?

Thanks Much,
C. Negatory

imho thats too much just to set it up as freshwater. Your payin for a skimmer and live rock you wont use in your fresh setup.

Well, I really wanted Piranhas. Cheap and really cool, and freshwater. Does anybody have any suggestions then on a replacement fish, something totally ZOMG FISH status. Maybe even carnivorous?

I wouldnt pay the extra money for a salt tank if your not going to use it as salt. You could find a better deal if it didnt have live rock and the protien skimmer. But if you buy it il pay for shipping for all the free items...

The only P I know of that's legal in your state is a specialized feeder called Catoprion mento.

Protein skimmers aren't used with Freshwater?

Home-type skimmers don't work in freshwater systems. Especially in the softer and more acidic water chemistries that Ps are maintained in. ABout all you can achieve with a skimmer in a P tank is ultra-aeration.

Yeah, I've just realized that as well thanks. So, I'm gonna fill my 75 with a starfish or two, an Octopus (Unsure Of Species) and maybe Sea Horses or some kinda fish that the octo isn't gonna eat.

Sorry again. There's no such thing as a fish tankmate that an octopus won't eat. That is, other than fish that won't hesitate to place octopus on their menu.
