Getting a 550 gallon tank next week...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Comet goldies have zero nutritional value and carry many parasites and have killed many fish. I dont recommend feeding feeders. Just too much a risk for getting diseases. Getting him on a pellet would get him all the nutritional value he needs that bloodworms and tilapia dont have. Maybe isolate him in another tabk till he takes pel le ts then put him back so he can eat with everyone else.

Seriously Zero? .......... Zero? I understand what your saying but saying Zero kinda shoots down everything else in your statement.

To continue my rant: How many fish actually die of poor nutrition? For me, they die from panic head smacking on glass and power outages. Most are poor water quality or tank mate issues. I never saw a thread where a fish died from clogged arteries, not one.

Goldfish are a good way to get a picky fish to eat. And super fun (cave man) to watch getting ripped apart. They do have some nutritional value and I can prove it.

We need more pics :)

Massivore is judged off gold fish value so a gold fish is a tool of measurement

sick tank dude, ya keep a eye on the dovii i would have gotten a dovvi that was only half the size of the oscar or the biggest fish ya have in there so he become firmilar with whos boss ;) lol....id love a tak that size 7ft x 3ft x 24-30" but thinking i have to get a custom tank made for myself here in canada :(

Thanks guys. Update on a couple fish. The oscar has been attacked a couple times so far now. He is still in hospital tank to recover again, and then I'll put him back and see if it keeps happening. He is the largest fish in the tank, so I would have hoped he could take care of himself. I guess time will tell.

The Dovii has a couple small bumps on his lower jaw, not sure what they are. If anybody has any clues, let me know. Thanks.

I've had several dovii over the years, from the size of yours to one that weighed in over 5lbs and let me tell you this, this WILL be only fish in the tank, guaranteed. This fish has no business being in with other fish, he is already wiping out your tank slowly. You need to ditch him or keep him where he is currently at, alone or untill he eats/kills all of your fish which he will no matter what ANYONE says. Like others have said, smaller Dovii may "seem" to "work" but there will be a time in that Dovii's life where he will all of a sudden destroy your tank. Dont let someone tell you different just because it was "ok" in their tank, why do you think you have it now and not them? They will tell you different, how pretty the colors are and its the most beautiful Dovii they have ever seen just to make a sale. Do what you want, either you are blind or dont want to beleive what will eventually happen to all of your fish.

Just because there is a bigger fish than the Dovii, dont think that for a minute the Dovii wont over power an Oscar, just not going to happen. This is his tank now.

About the gold fish having no nutritional value, obviously they have to have some value, it may not be the best but they do have a value. I've seen peacock bass live for years off of live goldfish, they didnt have any issues, they grew, etc. If there was no value to goldfish, the way I see it, the bass wouldnt grow and would die from not receiving any nutrition. I dont feed my fish feeders mainly because its expensive and they usually arent kept in the best of conditions. Its not the fishes fault, its the owners fault. Just like owners on here and how some keep their fish, they get diseases as well. It's a never ending cycle.
