I'll be picking up a 40 gallon breeder tomorrow. I was thinking about a 55 gallon, but because of my concern of the weight on my floor, and the fact that a 40 breeder has more turning space, I decided against it.
After the tank has finished cycling I will be moving my 5" Black Ghost Knife into it (perhaps maybe my catfish - though I know if I move him he will be PISSED). He is currently in my 29 gallon along with my Angel, 3 SDs, Striped Peacock, tiny Clown Pleco, and P. Blochii. Despite it being a bit overstocked, all are happy, and have more than enough room to swim around. They've been going strong for months. I think it's the way I have it set up -- little tank, with a lot of open space, two pvc corners under flat slate, a nice fake tree stump, and a small garden area. Anyway, I was hoping to put a cichlid or two into the 40 gallon along with my BGK (if I do, my cat won't go in there). I need a cichlid that tolerates 6.0 ph, and will be passive-aggressive towards my BGK. In other words, one that will NOT attack the Knife, but will defend itself easily if it gets attacked. I am not interested AT ALL in dwarf cichlids. They're too... uh... not cichlid-y.
If anyone has kept a BGK successfully with a relatively small cichlid that doesn't get over 7-8", i'd love to hear about it. If not, I am still open to all ideas, and would love to hear all input.
****disclaimer****
Talk about getting a bigger tank (ie 'bigger is better'; 'the fish will be happier in _________' etc.) will be ignored completely.
Thanks.
