You're joking right? Instinct does not equal intelligence. Birds can fly, does that mean they are more intelligent then humans because it took us thousands of years to create a vehicle for flight? Not sure who is flawed here...

What good is intelligence without empathy? Sure, you are pretty clever to be able to keep an octopus in a bucket, but your inability to relate to the suffering of a sentient being shows the limits of your thinking.

Wow..... You tube some seviche recipes tell everyone you ate him.... come back the next day with a new user name and say you rescued an octopus from an evil Walmart. I guarantee you will have nothing but helpful posts...

It'd be like one bite though!

I do agree with trying to get him a larger home. He's not very big right now but obviously he'll grow and could prob use some swimming room. I would look through craigslist. There are a ton of deals for under $100 for thanks that are 30-75g. Have you ID'ed the species yet? If not it maybe worth hunting down a marine biology teacher at a local school or college to see what it is. That way you can plan the setup accordingly. If you've never done sw before you will need to cycle the tank first with lr. Once again craigslist is a great place for this. So that being said if you went out and got a tank today he'd still be in the bucket for a while as the tank cycles. I know you mentioned there is broken asphalt, etc in the ocean near you. It's prob ok for the bucket but I would try to get some rock for the actual tank. This allows for proper bb to accumulate. I'd like to see what happens with the little guy so hop to it and get him/her/it a tank

I read the thread and that doesn't excuse your irresponsible behavior.

People like you should be banned from here since you are obviously not interested in the well being of the creatures in your possesion.

Reading the thread would probably help. Im a fisherman, octopus make great bait, he was bait that has now turned into a "pet project" if he doesnt make it, oh well he will still be used for bait. Afterall, its just a glorified snail.

After seven days Im still doing the daily WC treatment. He has eaten one shrimp (I guess cause its gone) and is more active/less afraid of me.

Im moving soon so I dont want anything too big right now. From the research Ive done, its pretty hard to ID living octopus as they can change color and shape at the drop of a dime.

I am interested in the animals well being, why else would I make the thread? :screwy: Banned because Im not a PETA member? I care greatly for all living things but I use my head/logic instead of emotions

Geez guys, stop flaming the guy. Just because you didn't agree with his choice of wordage and just because he doesn't know if the little guy will make it doesn't make him evil. I think it is sweet that you are giving it a go on keeping the critter alive, instead of letting it die and using it as bait.

Thanks for the kind words. It took a few cold brews to convince my fishing buddy to let me attempt to keep him alive instead of using him for bait immediately.

On a related note, during todays water change he made another break for it. Took me several seconds to scoop him up off the floor.

Quick lil somme*****es....

How soon are you moving? Maybe like a 20g long for the time being or something.

Also while they are difficult to ID if you find someone specialized they may be able to assist you.

So where the thread starter is from anyone who looks out for an animal is a whiny PETA member? Thats as ignorant as it gets.

However the point remains that octopus keeping is a highly advanced form of aquaria and this gentleman trying to do it in a bucket is as bad as keeping an oscar and a pacu in a ten gallon. So theres no care for the animal and no attempt to do it properly. Why would anyone be an accomplice in that mess?
