To the guys that are supporting me, thanks!

Oscar, I will take you up on that. A 12 pack of PBR and a couple dozen shrimp and I will release him, I doubt youll follow through though.

To the guys that are interested, I went out catching food for him today (shrimp) and caught some really cool by catch including two pistol shrimp, several pipe fish, arrow crabs, small flounder, pin fish, tiny little BRIGHT emerald green shrimp which were just cool, and several small fish I couldnt ID.

So has it ate anything yet?

its an octopus....do you have any idea at all what your doing? or any idea how to take care of a cephalopod? its in a 5 gallon bucket! your saying either it lives and gets put in a tank or it dies and is used as bait. what about the third option? Just stick the damn thing back in the water!! this whole thing really blows my mind

red-tail, lets not stoop to their level with the name calling but yes as far as I can tell its eating!

I must be a bad man, I use THOUSANDS of fish/shrimp/crab/squid and octopus for bait a year and I have a freezer full of fish to eat. :( What kind of evil person I must be for enjoying nature and providing a healthy alternative for my family to eat...

And for the people that dont know me, Im far from new to fish keeping. I was one of the first on MFK to get an armatus off of live food and hand feed it it, Ive kept dozens of rays, and many other rare and hard to keep fish. I do know what Im doing. I do know that keeping a 10" oscar in a 75 gallon is not different then keeping a ping pong ball sized animal in 5 gallons of water, bucket or tank, it doesnt matter to the animal.

Im on day 8.5 with healthy feeding octopus. I'm damn near tempted to keep it in the bucket just to see how long I can. I bet what Im doing is more human then getting one at a LFS store that has been shipped half way around the world in a tiny bag...

You mean the level of a guy who threatens to keep an octopus in a bucket out of spite?

You can be a land loving carnivore while retaining some humanity and compassion. Just because we eat animals does not mean anything goes. Thats a sad world to live in.

And with that I'm exiting this thread.

Yeah, when they start using feeding their families for keeping an octopus in a bucket you know this thread is at rock bottom.

If I saw my father doing that Id be ashamed and hope that I take after the mailman instead.

Name calling does not equal an attempt at the challenge of keeping an octopus in a bucket. By the way, I can PM you my paypal info and I will let him go for your offer.
