Getting my first boat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks great and for a good deal! Just dont be surprised to drop $1k-2K to turn it into a fishing boat.

I do see some potential in it. For example, you can deck out the front, add a trolling motor, some tackle box storage, live well, bass seat, and and a bottom machine and you will have a rig great for bass. With the back you can set up a trolling rig for striper and walleye with some rod holders, down riggers and another bottom machine with some nice comfy seats to relax in that would also be great for those catfishing trips with a case of 24 of your best friends!

Thanks for the encouragement everyone:D I don't want a super nice boat for 2 reasons.
1: I can't afford it
2: A few dings wont bother me and one of the main things I want to do is run it up on land next to an island to camp.

I won't re-paint it. I'd rather it look super old and be proud than have an old boat that I'm trying to make look new. I'm doing it for me, not anyone else. I don't care if it looks old. In fact, I like the old look! It will make me proud to have and old boat that still looks decent.
My friends are excited as well, even though they have nicer boats. I just want something to get me off of the shores of the few bodies of water that we have around here.

I can deck the front for way less than a grand and that includes a $400 trolling motor. I have most of the stuff to do it in my garage:D
I'll have a removable live well because I never keep fish that I catch. It will cost me less than $50. Most of the money will go into batteries and electronics.

Oh very nice, I remember my first boat, it was a pleasure to have, but remember boats CHUG gas and not drink gas like cars do.

I'll be doing more floating than moving:D

I really want a boat, but my friends tell me it's not worth it (sea farer, not lake boat btw)

I've heard 3 wise bits of advice about boats...

1) it's better to have a friend with a boat than have a boat
2) the two best days in a boaters life are the day the buy it, and the day they sell it
3) a boat is basically a hole in the ocean that you throw money into

I'll take the risk. I could drop this much into a computer. I need to be out of the house more.

as long as it runs and floats I'm good. I'm good with engines and mechanics so I'm not afraid of it at all.

nice runabout.

only thing is that old merc, Thats where most of your wasted money will be into that engine.

That's what I figured. From listening to my friends thats where the money will go no matter what it is LOL. Atleast this one has had some preventive work to get me by.
