No where
I am getting about 10 2" red bellies, I have a 125 that they will go into eventually, by themselves, but wanted to place them in a grow out until they get a little more size.

I had a few questions
Is a 40 breeder ok for a grow out until they get around 4 inches?
how many should I want to end up with in the 125?
what should I feed them and how much do they eat?
about how fast do they grow?

thanks for any help. I'm sorry if this is posted somewhere, but hey, what's the point of an active forum if we are only directed to reading already existing pages?

You should be good with them in the 125... Chances are they will off one or two of each other over the next year... The bigger the tank the faster they will grow so I would throw them in the tank sooner then later :)... Enjoy your rbps and feed them lots when they are young... I fed mine 3-5 times a day

do they seem to like blood worms? i have some frozen bloodworms I used with other fish and wonder if i can use these, at least while still small

Shrimp tilapra, flakes, beef heart, and just put them in the 125 or they will kill each other more

And they should grow to 6 inches in a few months

oh wow, I have been feeding mine like crazy and feel like they have grown a ton in just 2 weeks (25% bigger or so) but didn't think that was natural.

so they'll be ok to go right into the 125? i figured it would be a little large for them right off the bat

they will love the bigger tank, I have 4 (was 5 but the biggest was...well eaten) are in a 155g and love it. I think the more space and hiding spots the more active they will be.

I feed mine 3-6 times a day consisting of blood worms, beefheart, and 2 different types of pellets. They did not seem to like brine shrimp with spirulina so I have not been feeding it to them but I am sure every fish is different.

got some pics of your RBPs?

Imo you'd be better off starting them in the small tank. Feeding babies in a big tank suks! Wastes food also & its hard to monitor them all for illness, all eating well, even just doing a head count. Also imo after they reach 2" only feeding once a day works best. They'll grow the same rate as feeding multiple times plus they'll eat better actually filling their bellies. Use this time(1"-3") to get them to handfeed in the 40gal. This will make fish bold & calm when they're adults. Plus this will get them eating anything you offer. & skip the flakes, flakes are for guppies n such. Your fish won't get fill on flakes , they make a mess, n your more likely to experience cannibalism after feeding flake.

when mine were little i fed frozen bloodworms and frozen brine shrimp and they did pretty well i didnt switch them to frozen fish until about 4in. and try to get on pellets while you can
