Getting too busy...one fish in my 210 maybe??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If I did a breeding pair of Dovii, or Jags, or even Umbee, what kind of nitrate creep am I looking at? In other words, how often would I need to change the water. Oh, filtration is 2 Fluval 305's, 2 AC 110's, and 1 Penguin 350. I also have two powerheads.

Pick the Midas to be alone in the tank

Breeding pair of Dovii or Umbee, or like others said get a mate for the fish you have and like now and get rid of the others.

congrats on trying to keep your nitrates so low. oscars, pleco, and jd if it were mine would go. then i would probably do a pair of festae, rtm, argentae, or jags.

I'm really not sure how often you would, but I'd try to weekly water changes no matter what. Maybe just less volume like 25%.

If you're low on time, a breeding pair of umbee is a very bad idea. The male could turn at any second. You'll be fine until the male hits 12", but from then on I'd say you'll need a divider. A 3x2 is not enough space for an umbee. I'd personally do a pair of dovii.

dovii pair all the way. btw I dont think its neccesary at all to do 75% weekly. I have done 25% every 2 weeks all my life with all my set ups in 12+ yrs.

I have breeding pairs of all three. I have my pair of umbee in a 240g and my pair of Dovii in my 210 g tank. Even though I only have a pair in each tank, I still do a big water change every week. If your schedule does not allow you to do a water change every week, I would suggest to avoid these 3 cichlids. BTW, I have a wet dry filtration and two xp3's for the 210 and 4 xp3's for the 240.

Water changes depend on the stock list, I'm assuming you have a very light stock. On some of my tanks I have a heavy stock and do 2+ 33% water changes weekly. There's nothing a fish likes more than fresh, clean water IMO.
