Ghost Knife eating other fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I’m not sure if you said this but when was the last time you did a water Change, if you did it recently and uncarefully it might have died from ph/temp shock

Water parameters were all good. I haven't lost one since then either. I think it's probably likely that he does and got eaten. Ghosty shares his little hideout with a pleco and a loach who are both smaller than him so I'm definitely not blaming him anymore 😂

Not asking for the parameters, but if you recently did a water change as it could have died from ph or temp shock and got eaten
I’m sure ghosty is innocent

Sadly my cichlid is still missing. As for him getting anywhere in a vac or filter or tube, this fish was simply too big to go anywhere near any of those. I have checked all over the floor around the tank etc and nothing. I'd say he will never be found now, most likely any trace of him has now been eaten.

:(
The funny thing is, I've had fish go missing for months only for them to mysteriously reappear one day. I don't know where they went, but i have my theories.

Ive had my 5" BGK on my RCS tank before and I saw it eat some shrimps but its not enough to decimate the whole shrimp population.
its still a predator but I think it will only attack smaller prey, when I transferred it to a larger tank its not aggressive towards its tankmates

Every fish is an opportunistic hunter and some within the same species count as an opportunity what others might pass on.

I wouldn't find it hard to believe that a BGK was eating other fish as long as they'd fit in its mouth. When you flip the light out I'd expect that to happen.

Others clearly differ and they likely have more experience w/ them than I.

I seem to recall the words "rock background" somewhere earlier in this thread?

A rock background is way more likely to eat a cichlid than a BGK is. :)

Interesting conversation. I used to keep killi fish and if there was a space they would find their way into it. Back grounds. Filter intakes, feeding holes. The floor behind my tank during water changes. Some fish are capable of fitting them selves through things you never thought possible. Some can jump with incredible accuracy. I have a rummy nose tetra tank and the numbers have slowly decreased over the last year. Iv never seen a dead fish though. Of course they are much smaller but when there's high quality food in the water fish feed a lot harder. I would be very intetested to find out how this story ends. Sorry for your loss
