Thats a really nice shot of your ball python... And its good to see there are people that cant say no to an animal in need who can actually take care of them :)

I can't believe how fast these things grow, its absolutey mind boggling! Who needs a wife when you got a zoo in your house? Lol

Thx for the comments man!

A ball python was my first pet got him when I was 8yrs old and he lived for 18yrs, nice pic.

Wow that's a long time, how big did it grow? And how long do you think a 4'x2" will last? Luckily reptile tanks don't hold water so DIY plywood tank with glass fronts are relatively easy to build, will post pics when I'm finished with the tank this weekend!

Thx :)

I was just browsing this site and came across this post!
I have 5 beardies :) mom and dad who are roughly 6 years old with their 3 offspring that we kept. They are about a year and a half.
12 years, wow! I always thought they ranged from 7-8.. Very cool

Wow first off beautiful beardy family :)

Yes their average life expectancy is much less then 12 years, which is why I made the thread, Spike has become much less active over the past couple years so I wanted to give him his own thread because he's brought me so much joy and comfort in my life! realistically he could die any day, but every day he is alive is great, I will miss him dearly :(

He's been in a 75 his whole life, recently in the past few months I moved him to a 40b so he could be on my night stand and I could keep an eye on him, plus he never used the other half of the tank, the crushed walnut substrate never showed any marks the past couple years!

He eats crickets with calcium that I keep for a week or so and gut load with fish flake or fish pellets, always has a planter full of fresh water, I mix green beans, peas, carrots and corn with zilla beardy pellets as well.

But during summer he chills in a kiddy pool swimming for around 4-8 hours per day with a piece of dw, and i think the fresh sun and air has helped. Keeping them between 80-93 degrees is key too!

I never thoifht about gut loading with fish food. I have a friend that i can get rainforest roaches from but after he eats he just seems really lazy n idk he jus doesnt seem to enjoy them like he does crickets. Ive been thinking about building a 6ft by 2 wide by like 18 inches tall for him cause hes jus now gettong around a year. So he still has a bunch of energy

Whatever food I have laying around really, Bw, tubifex, flakes pellets etc. I put the food in a small bowl with some water and the crickets go nuts!

Also I was never one for overfeeding, after a few years i fed veggies 1x per week and crickets 1x per week. maybe that helped? All the literature I read suggested multiple Times per day, but the same was said about fish, and I only feed my fish 1x per week, but the key is healthy, fresh food for any captive animal, that way the nutrients that are absorbed are the absolute best!

Just grab a frozen bag, very cheap! Will last months! That's always been his main diet and if I go to long without crickets ill put powdered calcium on them, just a sprinkle tho!
