Well you could buy them from a good supplier direct, you can find em good sometimes on aquabid.com . And Faith Granger has some for sale $90 each goliath strain with good finage and colors, so naturally you mark it up a bit when you sell them most 100 dollars per betta. Then there is also some IBC breeders who will sell good ones.

I breed and would charge less, but I have none in stock right now =( When I get some though I am good with genetics and charts I can create some custom finnage and coloration, 180 degree spread baby!

NOO way dude never EVER buy STORE bettas, unless you want to practice breeding, thats why I name them stuff like "subject 9"

I'm definitely getting back into it. My dream betta is a GOLIATH, Crowntail, DT, MOH all in one, hee hee. With holy grail genes(the most amazing white ever) and perhaps a tinge of blue on the crowns..
 
wow i never new that all this stuff went on with these fish. i always just saw them as a color full fish that sat in a bowl dead at petsmart. im gonna haft to get into this
 
Bettas are one of the major reasons of the BOOM of the aquarium hobby in the US. Its sad though becuase all major pet stores carry now is stupid veil tails -__- I admit they are not bad to buy if you want to steal some coloration maybe, but you don't know what you are getting, because it could be a mut as far as color goes, would take a while to stretch it out. Not to mention they make good test breeders. They raise certain kinds to fight too, I know a few places where you can get trained ones(shorter less pretty fins obviously), but I haven't been much into that. Even though I guess it is just their instincts, I would feel wrong betting on it... But then again the idea of setting up a tank with a colloseum in it and letting em fight sounds kinda bad ass! :FIREdevil Not to mention I could use the money on bets -__- lol. The place I can get fighters from guarantees a 90% success rate.

I've owned a marine beta for a year next week, and MAN ARE THEY AWESOME! I have one crappy picture up in my gallery, but im working on getting others. Since I've had him, the little fellahs grown about an inch, and his color has gotten even better. It's cool to see people here as enthusiastic about awesome fish as I am, and I definitely recomend you buy a Marine, if only to add to an awesome collection. Peace,
