giant gourami care

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have two atm , one is 60cm and one is 30cm , I have kept one before that got to around 70cm and was still growing.

hey guys just wanted to let you know that i have purchased a 477 gallon tank, busy being made custom!,
it is going to be stocked with 4 amphilophus fish, 2 red devils, a black daemon and a chanchu,
there is also a jag that i am putting in, i also have 3 parrot fish,
2 flower-horn and parrot crosses,
an iridescent shark (will be moved to uncles 1500 gallon pond when he outgrows this tank)
three blue botias (similar to clown loaches ecxept blue with orange fins)
a feather-fin syndosis and some bumble bee Malawis that are breeding

overall there are about 22 fish in the tank, that means that there are 8 malawis that stay under 6 inches

the tank is in an L shape but viewed from the outside
it is almost 10 feet long, it varys in depth from 5 feet to 2 feet
it has a 180galon sump

i am also planning on getting a giant gourami, but not sure about overstocking the tank

the tank will be on a drip system

WHAT DO YOU THINK??

Why would you keep high pH and hardness Malaw cichlids with low pH soft water fish?

the fish here are captive bred in those water conditions, they are perfectly happy and are spawning, you can ask any member here and most people will tell you that it is good to stick with your regular ph and not try to change it as there can be swings and this would stress and kill the fish

480g, 10ft long, with a 180g sump and 22 fishes total with 8 of them under 6in. I think your tank will be fine :) I would be more concern with the aggression more than anything else. And yes, you can add a rtgg too if you want :) My tank is half yours in gallon and I think I have about 18 fishes total and the smallest one is 6inches and some of the bigger ones are: 18in rtgg, 16in red devil, 16in gg, 12in rtgg *yes, I have 3 gouramis living together, the little one gets chased around once in a while by the big one* I like to buy them small and play with them in my smaller tanks, then when they get big I put them into my big tank. Everyone seems to be doing well. 2 FX5's and 1 eheim 2217 for water polishing/UV purposes, ammonia, chemicals, etc. are all ok. I feed every other day. With your 180g sump and adequate return flow, I think your filtration will be a lot better than mine.

Post pics when done :)
