Hello all,

Just enquiring about buying a giant gourami, and whether anyone could give me some information please.
I currently have a 2ft tropical aquarium, but i was thinking of selling that, as its rather difficult to maintain, as its little, and got loads of small fish in it, and its heated ( to exact high temp) and has sand and loads of plants etc.

So i was thinking of buying a big aquarium, putting big gravel in it, with big leaved plants but not many, and having a giant gourami and a couple of pleco's, but i was thinking how big of a tank will i need?
Considering it will need to live in it for 3 years, before getting a bigger aquarium. The spoace i have to work with is 3ft, but if i can put an aquarium infront of a window, then up to 5ft possibly, buit would prefer 4ft, and can be any height, and 2.5ft width
i saw this, and it looked perfect, what do you think?

Thats for the first 3 years :)

Any ideas?
Also , would it get lonely, i know thats a weird thing to say, but would a gourami get lonely?
Thanks
Mike

By giant gourami, do you mean Osphonemus goramy, or the popular named gourami from the genus Colista?
The true giant, Osphronemus can easily reach 3ft in length in a short time, and wouldn't be able to turn around comfortably in that tank. You also would not be able to keep plants with it, because it is primarily vegetarian.
I had 3 in a 6 ft tank, that would eat a head of romaine lettuce (cos)per day.
They easily outgrew my 6 ft tank in under 2 years, and required massive water changes every 2-3 days.

i was thinking more the Osphronemus? love them! especially the albino version, from a baby? and maybe a few plastic ones then :L
What would you suggest?
Thanks
Mike

i do only plan to keep one btw :L, with a pleco, or something that it can talk to :L

I've NEVER seen a 3 footer, or even a solid 2 footer. You're safe! They will eat any and all plants, but they are wonderful, personable fish.

so you saying i could??
I was always told that fish grow to the size of there aquarium, if bought from a baby, im not sying if i put one in a 15 gallon, they would grow to that size, what i mean is, it should grow massivly to ig, shouldnt it?

I've seen a 2'+ one for sale here in HK...

Could u not just get a bigger tank to start off. I know thats kinda hypocritical of me but I already had it set up years before I went to a monster. All im saying is if u dont have tje tank yet why not just get the right one to start with n save more expense upgrading later.
