GIANT gouramis

Huh, wha, almost like gouramy, Hmmmm here I'm thinking that laticlavius are Gouramies. But what do I know.

Yes, the 'exodon' species has a similar striped pattern to the more common 'gouramy' species.

In the above pics, the red tint to the fins, and the body color that covers the upper half of the fish, clearly points to 'laticlavius', yet another species of gourami, but not 'gouramy'.

The glass on your tank Lou must unbelievablly clean and clear. For you to get such great shots. Some really nice Photography there Lou...Trust me I should know about such things, with my Big Fat Ass in Photography, from Parsons. Figure that one out.

Well, I do try my very best to keep the glass clean And try to be very patient and wait for the fish to come into the right position.

The one with the deformed jaw seemed really battered this morning... torn fins, missing scales... I think the other (which seems to be getting better everyday) picks on it...

Anyway, I have to buy the Melafix today...

We have a large one, we picked it up as an already large specimen with a damaged side. It keeps growing and is the bully of our tank, It does however have the most character. It stops all the other fish including 2' Pacu, Large stingrays and Alligator gars getting to the food. It really is an aggressive fish and we have thought about eating it (joke, sort of) to give all the other fish and turtles a break!

I once again tell myself that in life nothing is permanent and things move up and down. For such a long time I've been looking for Giant Gouramis and there were none to be found. Then, last week, I bought 2 baby RTGGs by mistake...

And, just an hour ago, my friend Jeff from AQUAVISION called me up saying that one of his customers just brought an RTGG that she no longer wanted... the beast measured about 25 cm long and was apparently beating up her oscars...

As Jeff knew I was looking for a GG, he took the fish and immediately called me. To cut things short, I now have another RTGG, a male this time. I've put him in the 5 footer where he seems to have become best buds with the pacu in a matter of minutes. They now swim along together...

Here are some pictures... his red fins are not that apparent yet I think that after a few days and some colour-enhancing food, he should be gorgeous

You know what Lou, let's trade I'll take your little ones and you can have my monsters. Yesterday I saw a nice Albino GG and thought hmmmm... I wonder should I try to raise another killer GG? All I would have to do is just get rid of the other misc fish I have and start buying other GG and before you know it Wamoo I'm raising nothing but Giants in my 180G and looking for a bigger tank or pond.

Well what happend after my small family emergency told and showed me that these beast have got too go. Came home to a tank full of food, really the dude that I asked to feed the fish the pre-measured amounts of food took it upon his self to feed them extra and needless to say the tank was full of uneaten FOOD. NO really, this guy fed them, I can only guess-estimate three or more times than they would eat, the rest lay on the bottom rotting.

So I think it's time that I go back to small little fish and plants, something that requires nothing more than a pinch of food once per day or too.

Best steer away from more ggs, the ones you've already got are out to get you

I hate it when people can't follow simple instructions, happened to me a couple of years, 'feed this daily and only this' four days later came home to a green tank

He's actually supposed to be about a year old... I sure hope I can manage to nurse him back into full splendour

Until the other one pulls through. The other RTGG will try an kill it until it's well enough to take care of it's self, trust me on this.

FYI Your new RTGG is NOT a male. I'm sure that it's a female, coloration and the shape and form of the mouth point to female. Males have a much broader jaw and regardless of food fed maintain a richer coloration than this fish. But I am basing my opion more on the shape of the Jaw especially the lower jaw. It's pointy and narrow like the females that I have, not broad and rounded like the males I have. Plus at 25cm aka 10 inches the bump on the head would be more pronouced than what it is.

So when your finished treating them and all just remember I have one more male than I need. Just come for a visit and leave with a fish.

I wish I could separate them but I've got nowhere else to put the sick one... Hmmm, will have to find a way...

As in regards to the sex of the new addition, I'm basing myself on the shape of the dorsal fin which is pointed (as compared to being rounded)...

I wish I could come and visit... not only I would leave with a fish but with hundreds of fabulous pictures!
