Nice pics. I gotta borrow a Digital Camera and get some nicer shots of my guys. Maybe this weekend. Again Nice head shots of your Female RTGG!

Nice shots as always Lou:)

Getting a bit worried about George again, He's off the food again, and there is a scum appeared on the glass, I noticed some yesterday but today it's gone full blown. Me feeling is the temp is too high, it's gone stupidly humid over here the last few days so I've turned the heater down to compensate.

To try and provoke a reaction, I dug up the onion bulbs from the discus tank as I really don't like them in there and planted them in that tank. They lasted about one minute until they were ripped up and he started ripping through the root system, so out they came again. At least I got a reaction.

Looking forward to the pictures Tequila:)

Is that really scum as you call it or is it little whitish worm like creatures? And is George the only one off feed?

No, it's hard to explain, and I don't have the funds to import a Lou for a good picture;). It's more like a dead matter, more like the crap the builds up in the filters, but more algae like but not green if that makes sense? The light reflection is what is making it look white, more of a dirty brown.

Everyone else is eating as normal:confused:

I've seen this on the glass on my tanks from time to time... I usually wipe it away...

Give it some time and it will lessen as the bacteria in the gravel will flourish and stabilise to cope with the nutrients in the tank... That bacteria, helped by regular gravel vacuuming and water changes and a working filter, will break down the organic materials that form this scum...

Mind you, it won't go away completely... you will have to do your share of cleaning the glass every now and then...

While I can't be 100% sure as I'm not there to see and touch it myself. I believe it is a form of Algae, I've noticed it from time to time in my 180G along the lower areas of the back glass and also on the return tube from the UG filter. The stuff along the back glass is mixed in with green algae especially above it. All areas mixed or not are grazed upon so I don't mess with it.

Yeah I agree stop worrying so much and do a little bit of wiping. Give your substrate time to build up a nice colony of bacteria and all should be well.

As for George not eating as much I really wouldn't worry about this unless the rest of the fish in the tank have stopped eating. Mine go off feed all the freaking time.

Example: Just finished feeding the fish soaked Xlarge Cichlid pellets, & Freeze dried mealworms everyone loved them except for the 2 male RTGG's which inhaled and exhale them again. There holding off because they want earthworms and live bugs and I ain't feeding any today. So their refusing all else. You think I'm worried or concerned, think again their doing me a favor, they don't eat it's hurting themselves not me. Now if they don't eat for a week and they start showing signs of stress, I'll start being concerned then.

On the glass thing, I now have high hopes from the tank full of marbles, it's a little known fact that a pleco lives in the tank of George and the glass was cleared when I get up, but when I got back from work again the glass was a mess again.

I'd just like to comment on my weird posting times in relation to the lights so if things are a little confusing then so am I:
Lights on at 10:00 gmt that's 11:00 bst we are on which is 13:00 Mauritius 08:00 NYC, off at 15:00 m, 1000nyc, sod it I give up, I'm on odd hours at the moment:irked:

Light on 10:00gmt, off 13:00 gmt, on at 17:00 off at 23:00 gmt, I'm working 11:00-21:00gmt work it out if you care:confused: Body clock all over the place:nilly:

Sounds like the joys of floater fishing for carp, I'm going to take the bait, no I'm going to play with the bait, I'm going to exhale the bait:wall::wall:

Seriously though I've had a theory about all this George stuff, all the comments from Tequila about them being picky are encouraging but I had a memory resurface. I was watching him this morning and he was moving his jaw funny, I know we are a knowledgeable bunch on here and he was moving his mouth something like crusher pad like a catfish would do inside his mouth but kind of off axis and then I had the light bulb. Wes who is the only person I know who's even kept an Exodon said ages ago about teeth development when they hit 10-12'', something I'd forgot about exodons, he's about 11-12''. I never thought I'd say this about a fish but maybe he's teething?

Thanks for the comment guys, it feels weird having a glass of wine before bed at midnight:nilly:

You know your whole time system just throws me off, I'm on a 12 hour Clock not a 24 hour clock so whatever the time is where ever you are is just more than I care to try and figure out. Whenever you get on is when you get on. Bevause your going to have the same troubles regardless of when you get on, so why does it matter what the time is over there on the darkside of the moon.:screwy: As long as your not waking up the Moon Monkey's who cares.;) GMT stands for what= General Moon Time?

I was trying to explain the scum build up in relation to the lights but trying to convert various time zones did me in after a long day:confused: so I gave up;)
What's so hard about a 24 hour clock?
