i would get shrimp with the shell still on..it adds additional protein as well as calcium, my two GG's are growing like theres no tomorrow on cichlid pellets and shrimp..

Well I guess then that I can expect that my beast will be total monsters come sept. I plan on feeding them Raw Shrimp, Freezed Dried Mealworms, Cichlids large pellets by Hikari and Live Earthworms & beatles, Waxworms, Bloodworms, Blackworms and fresh greens and feeders even for the next 5 months. As for the shells on the Shrimp and need for calcium I think that my fish will find it elsewhere.

are mealworms and waxwrms the samething?
and are 'superworms' just big nightcrawlers?

Superworms are just monsterious Mealworms, that bite.

Holy flying fish!!!

While doing a some work on tank hood, female RTGG comes flying out of tank trying to escape charging attack from larger male. Completely blows through the plexiglass covers scarring half to death, flies right out of tank and on to floor some 7 feet away. Flapping all over, just missed landing in trash can filled with old sharp computer MB - would have shreadded fish. Didn't really realize how big fish was until it hit the floor.

RTGG female approx 10 inches and weighs like 1.5~2 pounds roughly 2 inches thick. Wouldn't fit in 12 inche wide net. Was super lucky that 72 inch glass lighting tubes didn't burst. I think my fish are trying to kill me. Fish has good size slash on one side from either hitting floor or caused by plexi-glass. Slash doesn't appear to be past the scales. Will check more closely in morning when I hope fish is more calm and lighting is on. Hopefully it won't go in to shock and die before morning.

Lou, can you not talk to your mate at aquavision and see if he could import a few? With Pacus, arrows etc. turning up over there I'm sure the odd GG wouldn't be too hard to bring over?

There again I live on the other side of the moon with moon monkeys apparently, so what would I know

I asked him already... apparently, it is the owner of the store who vets the orders... and he does that according to sales... as Giant Gouramis don't sell that much here as compared to goldfish, for example... I have to wait until he decides to bring a few...
